Advancements in biotechnology have changed our way of life for the better. However, some emerging fields pose significant challenges to the environment and humans. For instance, genetic engineering is one area where a lot of new developments have taken place. I believe this field may put us all in danger and should be avoided due to its health, environmental, and social impact.

Manipulating the genum of humans and other species can disturb the natural balance in the ecosystem. For instance, gene alteration can lead to new diseases that can place a huge burden on our healthcare system. In addition, due to the complexity of the ecosystem, such alterations might have numerous unintended consequences for the ecosystem, leading to the extinction or distortion in some species.

Genetic engineering can be weaponized and used in wars between nations, which might lead to an existential threat against humanity. For instance, some armies might engage in the development of viruses and bacteria that can be used in dirty bombs to wipe out entire communities during a war. This aspect also puts the entire human race in danger of extinction, as the subsequent complications after these wars are never contemplated adequately. Imagine the health and psychological ailments that a community might have to deal with for, perhaps, decades after a war, where such weapons are used.

In conclusion, based on its adverse environmental and health effects and the danger of misuse by bad actors, genetic engineering should be extremely restricted or completely banned. After all, as a technological trend, this field should always serve humanity, not put it in existential danger.
