CELPIP Speaking Task 7

March 17, 2026 6 min read

CELPIP Speaking Task 7 rewards clear thinking more than dramatic language. The strongest answers tell the listener exactly what you think, then support that opinion with reasons that are easy to follow.

A simple, organized answer usually sounds much stronger than an ambitious answer that repeats itself or loses direction.

A simple Task 7 structure

1

State your opinion

Give your answer clearly in the opening sentence.

2

Give your first reason

Choose a reason that is easy to explain under time pressure.

3

Add support

Use an example, result, or short comparison to make the reason stronger.

4

Close clearly

End with one sentence that reinforces your position.

Example frame

Opinion: Personally, I believe this is the better choice.

Reason: The main reason is that it would save time and reduce stress.

Support: For example, people with busy schedules usually need the most practical option.

Closing: That is why I would definitely support this choice.

What often sounds weak

Weak move Better move
The opinion appears too late. State it immediately.
The same reason is repeated in different words. Add one useful example instead.
The support is too vague. Use a specific result, situation, or comparison.
The answer sounds memorized. Keep a frame, but use natural wording.

Task 7 is testing whether you can express an opinion clearly, support it with reasons, and keep speaking in an organized way.

Do I need to discuss both sides in Task 7?

No. You can mention another view briefly, but the main job is to explain your own opinion well.

What usually lowers Task 7 scores?

Scores often drop when the opinion is unclear, the support is repetitive, or the answer is too short to develop the idea properly.
