CELPIP Reading CLB 6 Main Problem Map

Find the main problem that keeps strong students at CLB 6 in CELPIP reading.

Intro

Many CELPIP students have CLB 8+ in speaking or listening but remain at CLB 6 in reading. This lesson maps the main causes so you can stop practicing randomly.

Examiner Criteria

  • Correct answer selection based on textual evidence, not keyword familiarity.
  • Stable accuracy across question types under time pressure.
  • Consistent comprehension of purpose, viewpoint, and detail.

Mistakes

  • Treating all question types with one reading method.
  • Matching words without verifying meaning in context.
  • Spending too long on one hard question and rushing the end.

Strategy

  1. Track your errors by question type for three timed sets.
  2. Mark each error as one of four causes: distractor, inference, viewpoint, or timing.
  3. Build practice blocks that target only your top two causes.

Example

Weak approach: β€œI got many wrong because the section was hard.”

Better approach: β€œMost misses came from inference and viewpoint items in Part 4, so I need proof-based inference drills.”

Exercise

  1. Review your last reading set and classify each wrong answer by cause.
  2. Count which cause appears most often.
  3. Plan one 30-minute practice block for that cause only.
