Band 7+ is structure + precision. Not fancy vocabulary.
Writing scores drop for predictable reasons: unclear position, weak paragraph logic, and grammar mistakes that signal low control. Fix the system, and your score follows.
What you’ll train here
Task 2 argument structure, paragraph unity, linking without over-linking, and sentence control (accuracy + range).
What the examiner really wants
A clear answer to the question, developed ideas, and language that stays correct under pressure. Simple + correct beats complex + broken.
Band 7+ backbone (Task 2)
Use this spine: Position (1 sentence) → Roadmap (1 sentence) → Body 1 (idea + explanation + example) → Body 2 → Conclusion (restate, don’t add new ideas).
Introduction
Paraphrase + position + 2-point roadmap. No history lesson.
Body paragraph
One main idea only. Explain it, then prove it with a specific example.
Flow
Logical flow beats “more linking words.” Use linking to show meaning.
Sentence control
Mix simple + complex safely. Avoid risky structures you can’t control.
Quick writing drills
Thesis + roadmap drill (3 minutes)
Write 2 sentences only: your position + your 2 main points. Do this daily with new prompts. This builds clarity fast.
Paragraph unity drill
Write one topic sentence, then three supporting sentences that all match it. If one sentence doesn’t support the topic sentence, delete it.
