Subject: Winter session volunteer positions — action required by November 10

Dear volunteers,

The Hillcrest Community Centre is now recruiting for its winter session, which runs from December 1 to February 28. We have positions available in three program areas: the after-school tutoring program, the seniors' digital literacy workshops, and the weekend food bank. Each position has different scheduling requirements, so please read carefully before indicating your preference.

The after-school tutoring program operates Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Volunteers must commit to at least two days per week for the full three-month session. A post-secondary education background is preferred, but not required if the applicant has demonstrated tutoring experience. All tutoring volunteers must complete a mandatory one-hour online orientation before December 1.

The seniors' digital literacy workshops run every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Volunteers must be comfortable helping older adults with basic smartphone and computer tasks. No formal technology credentials are necessary, but patience and clear communication skills are essential. These workshops are the most in-demand volunteer placement, so early registration is strongly encouraged.

The weekend food bank operates Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Volunteers can sign up for individual shifts rather than committing to the full session. This is the most flexible option. However, volunteers under 18 must have a parent or guardian present at all times and cannot operate the inventory management software.

Hi Sandra,

Thank you for the message. I am interested in the after-school tutoring [____1____] and would like to sign up for Mondays and Wednesdays.

I completed a two-year teaching assistant [____2____] at my previous job, so I hope that qualifies as demonstrated tutoring experience, even though I do not have a post-secondary degree.

I also have a question about the [____3____] orientation. Is it possible to complete it after December 1 if I am confirmed as a volunteer? I am travelling until November 30.

My younger sister, who is 16, is also interested in helping at the weekend food bank on Saturdays. Could you confirm whether she would be able to use the [____4____] software, or if that is restricted? She will have our mother with her.

Finally, I want to [____5____] that I signed up last winter as well, in case that affects my priority in the selection process.
